How’s Your Heart?

Anger and Depression plague our students and our nation. We live in a social media world where everyone is connected but feel so alone. They can express their opinions and anger with the click of a button. Anger and Depression are emotions that we all deal with on some level and both are linked to the heart and as Proverbs 4:23 states, “Above all else, guard  your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

We want what God has to say about these emotions to sink into the lives of the students, so we are taking two weeks to discuss them. We divided the students into two groups and they focused on one emotion this week and will talk about the other next week. We also changed things up by allowing our older students and interns to lead the discussion.

The students looked at these Scriptures:

Proverbs 24: 1-2Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.”

Jeremiah 17:9-10 “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10 ‘I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.'”

Matthew 15:18-19But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.”
